Worth Allen Ryder was born on November 10, 1884 in Kirkwood, New York. His childhood was spent in Berkeley, California. He entered UC Berkeley in 1903 and studied for three years before turning to art and studying at the Art Students League in New York, earning at B.F.A. in 1908. He was appointed Lecturer at UC Berkeley in 1927, and held several Professorships before being appointed Professor Emeritus in 1952. Professor Ryder died on February 17, 1960.
